VegfestUK Awards 2011 – The voting has begun….

The nominations and categories for the 2011 VegfestUK awards have been announced, and already the votes are rolling in for some of the best vegan products, projects, people and publications in the UK today. Now in their fifth year, the awards are voted for online over a period of three months from March to May 2011, with the winners being announced at Europe’s biggest veggie event VegfestUK Bristol on May 29th at 3pm.
There are 11 categories for 2011, each with ten nominees in each, and these include leading vegan brands such as Provamel, Redwood and Fry’s alongside smaller producers and campaigners, giving a true snapshot of some of the best that this growing lifestyle has to offer.
More and more people are giving up meat and dairy products for a number of reasons, be they for health, the environment, animal welfare or improved global food production, and the awards provide a fascinating glimpse into the movers and shakers of the vegan lifestyle in 2011.
Categories include ‘Best Vegan Meat’ and ‘Best Vegan Dairy Products’ and ‘Best Vegan Milk’, showcasing a variety of brands that cater for a dairy and meat free existence, and the awards include a number of new categories for 2011 including ‘Best Vegan Cakes and Sweets’ which reflects the steady growth of new businesses and products in this particular sector over the last 12 months.
‘There’s no doubt the vegan lifestyle is on the increase’ says the organiser of the awards, Tim Barford from VegfestUK, ‘and you can see that by the huge number of new products, services and businesses that have sprung up over the last 12 months that cater for the vegan lifestyle. There may be a depressed financial climate still but vegan businesses are growing in leaps and bounds, which reflects the big rise in interest in healthy eating particularly. Eating vegan is now associated with eating healthy in mainstream society, and people are seeking more and more meat and dairy free products. These awards showcase some of the best, as well as paying tribute to some of our most dedicated campaigners and activists pressing for change.’

The winners are announced at Europe’s biggest veggie event VegfestUK Bristol on May 29th. The festival includes headline appearances from the likes of Ms Dynamite, Aswad, Goldie Lookin Chain and The Selector, and entry is free to the public during the daytime.
