GCSE class come up with a tasty vegan menu
Yestarday in Maidenhead a school class of 15-16 year olds came up with a tasty imaginary vegan menu in a workshop.
- Jacket Potato and Sun-Dried Tomato Baked Bean Surprise (gluten free)
- Coconut Chilli Beans with Nachos (gluten free)
- Rainbow Cottage Pie, with veggie mince, dairy-free cheezy mashed potato and a rainbow of vegetables
- Cauliflower and Chickpea Curry with Coconut Rice (gluten free)
- Peanut and Lime Chicken Style Stir Fry - peanut butter coated Chicken Style Pieces served on a lime and ginger stir fry with rice noodles
- Pesto and Tomato Pasta - pasta served with tomatoes and a home-made basil and pine kernel pesto and salad

Eat less meat or buy local?
What you eat has a carbon footprint, and both eating fewer animal products and buying local can reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. However, researchers have found that even just cutting back on the red meat one day per week is more significant than buying all your food from local sources every day.

Harvard says 'Calcium is important. But milk isn’t the only, or even best, source'
Do people get their knickers in a twist about your calcium levels if you don't do dairy? Well they need not fear. In fact, alternative sources can give you more benefits and fewer pitfalls than cows milk, as well as far more variety, according to the Harvard School of Public Health.
