Fiona Phillips and Russell Brand Europe's Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities

Date: 2007-06-26

PETA Europe is thrilled to announce that GMTV's Fiona Phillips and BBC Radio 2's Russell Brand have been named the 2007 winners of PETA Europe's Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities poll.

Red-carpet runners-up include music sensation Joss Stone, Judge John Deed actor Martin Shaw, socialite Peaches Geldof and brooding musical genius Morrissey. The winners of PETA US' own 2007 Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities poll will be announced next week!

This is the second year running that you have voted Russell Brand as the sexiest vegetarian male. Fans of his BBC Radio 2 show – the UK's most downloaded podcast – have heard Russell talk endlessly about animal-related topics, including the facts that he has been vegetarian for 17 years, drinks soya milk and named his cat after one of PETA's biggest supporters, Morrissey. Can Russell make it a hat trick next year? With his first two movies due out in the coming months – including one in which he co-stars with Hollywood A-lister Edward Norton – his plans for "world domination" look unstoppable!

With a work schedule requiring her to get up at the crack of dawn each morning, viewers can't help but be amazed at GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips' boundless energy. After 14 years with the show, she still looks as youthful as ever. What's her secret? A diet packed with fruits and vegetables gives Fiona energy and keeps her figure trim. She is also raising her two sons – ages 5 and 8 – as vegetarians. "I would have no hesitation in recommending a vegetarian diet to everyone!" she says.

Why are so many celebrities shunning meat? These stars' reasons for keeping animals off their plates are as diverse and inspiring as their talents – from avoiding the inexcusable cruelty to animals in factory farms and abattoirs to improving their own health and helping the environment by not contributing to factory-farm pollution.
